Pattern Story - Gumdrops
Welcome to our new blog series called “Pattern Stories”
This first blog post will explore the stories and inspiration behind our best
selling pattern called “Gumdrops” I hope you enjoy!!
Gumdrops are a sweet and chewy candy - and by all accounts, can be considered an “old fashioned” kind of candy.
You will not find Gumdrops in the checkout aisle of your local Target/Walmart store.
With some luck however, you may still find Gumdrops by the pound at a traditional candy counter.
Gumdrops are nostalgic, as a child these were a favorite treat - I am instantly carried back to happy childhood memories.
Even now as an adult, I still love Gumdrops and generally prefer soft/chewy type candies like Dots for instance…
Candy seems to have a kind of magical power over kids, and often times create memories which last a lifetime.
And it is true - for me Gumdrops are a reminder of time spent visiting with my grandparents.
My grandparents had a glass candy jar placed on a serving buffet which was filled
with a rainbow of these spicy candy nuggets.
Good behavior was rewarded with your choice from the candy jar, and who doesn’t love
the sweet, chewy flavor of a colorful candy gumdrop?
Gumdrops come in a range of bright colors, shapes and flavors.
The general spice drop flavors are cinnamon represented by red color drops, peppermint by white, spearmint by green, sassafras by yellow, licorice by black, and clove in orange color.
My childhood favorite was the green, my tastes has changed slightly as I now prefer the orange.
Can you see the inspiration in the fabric design?
My pattern Gumdrops is based the memories I have of time spent with my
grandparents and the glass candy jar filled with spicy Gumdrops
