News - Sarah Bertochi Handmade partners with One Tree Planted

Sarah Bertochi - Handmade is proud to announce our sustainability initiative with One Tree Planted. New in 2022, Sarah Bertochi - Handmade will plant one tree for every order placed, through One Tree Planted - an organization that community funds the planting of trees to help businesses offset their carbon footprint and combat the effects of climate change.

Our funding efforts will be directed to the Forest Fire Recovery program. The most recent forest fire season on the west coast of North America has been particularly destructive. An impactful way to help the regions affected by these devastating fires is by planting a tree. Reforestation is one of the best ways to restore a healthy environment after fire damage. One Tree Planted will be working with local environmental groups to plant trees in areas affected by the fires, with a current focus on Oregon and British Columbia.

Oregon's Bootleg fire is the largest in the US so far in 2021, with over 400,000 acres already burned. With so much fire damage, reforestation is essential in catalyzing the environmental recovery process, preventing invasive species, and restoring homes for biodiversity. This will result in the need for hundreds of millions of trees. One Tree Planted will work with partners on the ground to determine the most appropriate species of tree to plant depending on the time of year and local ecosystem needs. The west coast has a rich forest diversity with dozens of different species of native trees including some of the world's most interesting and valuable tree species. These include pine, spruce, fir, hemlock, western red cedar, giant sequoia, oak, and sycamore

At Sarah Bertochi - Handmade we will track and share our progress on our Mission page including a Tree Counter which will be updated quarterly to reflect the number of trees planted.
