Maker Story - Kitchen Sink Candle Co., Matt and Liz Landry
A Maker Story is a glimpse into the minds and lives of some of our favorite local artist and makers. We have been so fortunate to know an incredible group of talent from diverse backgrounds - each finding inspiration in different ways.
Each artist has their own unique voice and perspective, however it is safe to say they are all unified with a shared passion for creativity and for making things by hand.
We are proud to carry the work from this exceptional group of makers and wanted to provide a place to highlight their creations. We also hope this space becomes a destination to discover new ideas, interests and be inspired.
When did you start your business? 2018
What inspired you to start Kitchen Sink Candle? We were 2 chefs who wanted to continue our passion for creativity and food, by finding another medium to explore our love of food. Our original line of candles was all chef inspired food scents that has since grown to over 100 scents!
What does a typical day at Kitchen Sink Candle look like? Pure chaos mostly! We're either working hard to fulfill wholesale orders, prep for weekend markets, prep for Candle Making events at local breweries, running the shops or doing all of the behind the scenes paperwork, accounting and social media tasks!
What product is the first style you ever made? Lemon Blueberry Biscuit candle is the first candle we ever made, our signature scent and one of our best sellers!
Are you currently working at your business full time? Full time and then some!
What is your most popular style? And whatβs your personal favorite? They are all popular. It depends on your candle style and what scent you like- everyone is different!
My personal all time favorite is Walk in the Woods. It's been my favorite scent for years!! Smells like you're walking through the fallen leaves on Halloween night.
What is the best part of owning your own business? Watching how far we've come in the last 5 years and seeing what we have built from the ground up. It is amazing to be your own boss and choose how to live your life and spend your time. Our candles are now in over 100 stores throughout New England!
What is the most challenging part of owning your own business? It is a 365 days a year, 12 hours a day job. We have taken A LOT of risks to do what we're doing, and sometimes it is beyond stressful and overwhelming. But you just have to keep pushing through, one day at a time!
Where do you picture your business in 5 years? Hopefully we have our candles in shops across the US! And MAYBE one more shop- 2 is already a lot!
If you didn't own Kitchen Sink Candle what would you do? I would still be a chef!
