News - Uppercase Magazine Feature
With every issue Uppercase Magazine, will put out open calls for certain types of artwork. With your entry you are required to respond to a specific question as part of your submission, it’s not enough just to forward examples of your work.
I responded to the following “ How do you make the mundane marvelous? How to you take the ordinary and make it extraordinary?” Artists and craftspeople can elevate everyday objects and experiences through keen observation, attention to detail and appreciation for beauty. I have always been fascinated by architectural details, specifically those which are present yet unseen - you past everyday but do not notice.
I developed a series of patterns based on simple markings I discovered on a manhole cover. I sketched out these markings and rearranged the geometry to create a series of graphic patterns, some of which I now screen print onto fabric as part of my regular art practice in support of my small business.
