Maker Story - Written In Clay, Kristy Nepveu

A Maker Story is a glimpse into the minds and lives of some of our favorite local artist and makers. We have been so fortunate to know an incredible group of talent from diverse backgrounds - each finding inspiration in different ways.

Each artist has their own unique voice and perspective, however it is safe to say they are all unified with a shared passion for creativity and for making things by hand.

We are proud to carry the work from this exceptional group of makers and wanted to provide a place to highlight their creations. We also hope this space becomes a destination to discover new ideas, interests and be inspired.

When did you start your business? 2020

What inspired you to start Written In Clay? I was a waitress when the Pandemic caused everything to shut down in 2020, and ultimately lost my job. I had a Pinterest board that I had been adding to for years of polymer clay earrings, and finally had the time to try making my own. I fell in love with polymer clay, and haven't looked back since.

What does a typical day at Written In Clay look like? My business is a part-time hobby (I am a full-time paralegal). A day of making consists of me in my clay office, mixing, cutting, drilling and prepping earrings. The clay earring process has a plethora of steps, so I am always picking off at different batches and styles.

What product is the first style you ever made? White hexagon dangles with purple and black color-patches.

Are you currently working at your business full time? No-it is a hobby/side-business.

What is your most popular style? And what’s your personal favorite? Most popular- Honey Bee Studs, My favorite - Handmade Geodes

What is the best part of owning your own business? Being able to brand in the way I choose and to make unique products inspired by nature and recent travels.

What is the most challenging part of owning your own business? Consistency in online/social media presence and marketing.

Where do you picture your business in 5 years? Hopefully still as a side hobby that I enjoy doing to bring unique, handmade earrings to the MA and NH communities.
