Joan Miro

I discovered Joan Miro's work recently at an exhibit held at the Lowell History of Textile Museum.  Not knowing anything about this artist, I thought "she" had a great handle on the use of color, shape and composition.  After some additional research on my own, came to quickly realize that Joan, "He", is a well celebrated Spanish artist who for a period painted with the great Pablo Picasso.  I do not know much about the Cubist movement or about Surrealism, I just know I like it!

Miro's work along with many of the other "Modern Masters" (Picasso, Chagall, Leger) were commissioned by Fuller Fabrics in the 1950's to develop textiles collections.  This collaboration was significant for American design at the time because of the collaboration of textile manufacturers, museums, commercial art galleries and artists in an attempt to raise the standard of American textile design and widen the market for contemporary art.
