Watercolor Dots Series - New Surface Pattern Design

I am not a "fine" artist-my skills lie primarily in being able to translate my ideas graphically on the computer. I will sketch or doodle and translate those ideas from paper into a pattern design after some manipulation in either Photoshop or Illustrator. Watercolor painting exposes my lack of drawing skills to a degree which makes me somewhat uncomfortable. If I am to be viewed/regarding as an "artist" shouldn't I know how to draw? Seems a pretty basic skill requirement wouldn't you think? This I know is a self limiting thought process and something I struggle with everyday. I have to remind myself that "I am an artist" and my art is unique to me so comparing my style to others does not accomplish anything but promote the self doubt which already exists.  As a "newbie" to surface patter design, it's hard to be on the side where you "do not know anything" however I am learning to view these situations as opportunities and not let fear prevent me from taking the next step.  Art really is "in the eye of the beholder"
